Overview
The New England Regional Biosafety Laboratory (NERBL) supports advanced infectious disease research. It is a BSL3 biocontainment laboratory and animal facility available to investigators from academia as well as industry partners engaged in the development and validation of preventives and interventions targeted to infectious disease. The NERBL is part of an NIH-funded national network of biosafety laboratories engaged in infectious disease research and in support of efforts towards pandemic preparedness.

The candidate will work with other members of the NERBL research team on scientific projects. Activities in the laboratory include cell culture, culture and quantification of viral, bacterial and fungal pathogens, nucleic acid extraction and PCR, other microbiological techniques, immunological assays, which may include serum neutralizing assays, ELISA, flow cytometry, ELISPOT, immunofluorescence assays, microscopy and similar methods. The position will include working with laboratory animals including administration of pathogens and test articles, study related sample collection, necropsy and tissue collection. The candidate will be expected to accurately record and interpret data, assist with preparing reports, publications and presentations. The individual will be expected to work independently and assist in research design and modification of techniques and protocols as well as taking on new and/or additional duties as skills improve and laboratory needs change.
