The Department of Physics at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Experimental Laboratory Astrophysics. Laboratory Astrophysics involves laboratory experiments and theoretical calculations aimed at understanding our universe by complementing astronomical observations and astrophysical/astrochemical modeling. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead a cutting-edge, externally funded research program in Experimental Laboratory Astrophysics, focusing on laboratory experiments that complement astronomical observations and space exploration.
- Conduct experiments to contribute to our understanding of astrophysical processes, astrochemical reactions, and fundamental atomic and molecular physics in space environments.
- Work across disciplines with colleagues from astrophysics, plasma physics, planetary science, heliophysics, and related fields to advance knowledge of the physical processes driving astrophysical phenomena.
- Teach and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, providing them with strong foundations in laboratory astrophysics and experimental methods.
- Contribute to departmental service and broader university initiatives, promoting the visibility and impact of Auburn’s research in laboratory astrophysics
