  • Mast cells are known to be involved in inflammation because of the release of many pro-inflammatory mediators from the granules of these cells. Reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are also involved in inflammation in the body, has recently been shown to be present in mast cells. In addition, an uncoupling protein (UCP2) that is involved in ROS activity has been identified in mast cells.
The aim of Dr. Clemons' research is to understand the ROS cell signaling pathway that is present in mast cells. Specifically, her research focus is to identify the role of mast cells in ROS and UCP2 activity.
