Iam interested in deciphering the biogeochemical and isotopic information encoded in organic molecules present in modern and ancient environments. I study how microbial and environmental processes control carbon and nutrient cycling in the ocean, particularly in oxygen-depleted settings and along continental margins, and during periods of extreme oceanographic–climatic changes and mass extinctions in earth history.
