We have developed a model to relate the spatial and temporal dynamics of mountain building in a relativistic framework, constrained by non-equilibrium thermo-dynamics. We are now testing the model by accumulating new and more data on timing , spatial dimensions, structural history and sequences, using detailed mapping, GPS data, seismic distribution, strain data and other techniques. A picture emerges of a 'complex', non-linear system of orogenesis from major orogenic belts around the world.
