I am interested in both solid Earth geophysics and exploration geophysics. In the past twenty years I have involved in various projects in mantle tomography, seismic migration, hypocentral determination, reservoir characterization, seismotectonics, crosswell seismic imaging, and gravity modeling. It very challenging to work on both academic and industry fields because that new generation of geophysics requires a higher level of integration of all types of information in order to better constrain the solutions to ever more complicated problems. My colleagues and I are using various seismic imaging techniques to help understand subsurface features of sizes from thousands of kilometers to millimeter, a scale range of power 10. The targets of our study range from global anomalies such as subduction zones and mantle plumes, to regional anomalies such as crustal structure of southern California, to local anomalies such as oil and gas reservoirs, and to anomalies in a laboratory sample
