My research focuses on fisheries ecology, population dynamics, stock assessment, and ecological modeling. More specifically, we apply statistical methods to survey data to improve sampling programs. We study spatial interactions among species and environmental variables. We develop and apply quantitative modeling approaches, such as age/length-based models, single/multi-species models, and individual-based models to assess and predict population dynamics. We develop management strategy evaluation approach to evaluate the potential impacts and the risk of alternative strategies in fisheries management. We also develop ecological models to explore the trophic interactions among species, to identify the keystone species, and to understand how environmental changes affect fish stocks
