Dr. Pospelova’s research interests center around micropaleontology, with emphasis on applications of palynology for paleoenvironmental studies. She uses sedimentary records of organic-walled microfossils (dinoflagellate cysts, foraminiferal organic linings, pollen and spores) for reconstructions of climatic and oceanographic conditions in the late Quaternary. Another aspect of her work is the development of dinoflagellate cysts as biological indicators of pollution and eutrophication in coastal and estuarine waters
