Job Description

The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the Schaefer School of Engineering and Science, Stevens Institute of Technology (Stevens) seeks to fill a full-time (9 month) lecturer position in Chemistry starting in the Fall 2022.  The candidate should be able to: (1) maintain the Department’s nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instruments, including user training and coordination as a subject matter expert; (2) deliver a first-class learning experience in undergraduate general chemistry, a coordinated course serving primarily engineering and science students with many sections; and (3) teach intermediate chemistry courses, including organic chemistry.

 

The candidate must possess extensive hands-on experience and knowledge in using and maintaining NMR. In particular, the candidate should have experience in: (1) maintaining functionality, calibration/shimming, and optimization of NMR instrument; (2) installing and tuning NMR probes, (3) setting up probes for specialized nuclei; and (4) troubleshooting problems associated with acquisition of NMR spectral data. Also, the candidate with working experience with infrared spectrophotometer, liquid chromatography, and mass spectrometry is preferred.  The candidate should possess impeccable organizational and strong collaborative skills, can multitask, and help manage the NMR facility.  The successful applicant will contribute to curriculum development and assessment activities; and be an active member of the intellectual community.  This position requires the candidate have a Ph.D. in Chemistry (or a MS degree with extensive professional experience in working with NMR) and have previous teaching experience.
