The Department of Physics at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2020 (contingent on funding). Applications will be considered from both theorists and experimentalists in broad research areas of condensed matter physics and nanomaterials. The existing strengths of the department in the area of condensed matter physics include atomic clusters, nanostructures, defects in semiconductors and aerogels, and in the biomedical physics include cancer development and diagnosis, cell growth, and nanopore-based resistive pulse single molecule sensing. While candidates who can complement the existing strengths (http://physics.vcu.edu) will be considered, preference will be given to those who can broaden our research base by working in related areas such as energy production, conversion, and storage. Candidates will be expected to carry out a vigorous research program and teach at all levels. The department offers a Ph.D. in Nanoscience, in collaboration with the Chemistry department. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related discipline and at least two years of postdoctoral experience.

Application review will begin November 15, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants must use our eJobs portal (www.vcujobs.com) to submit a complete application package consisting of a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a research plan, a statement of teaching philosophy, and the names and contact information of three references.
