Overview

The Department of Neuroscience is a basic science department that focuses on cutting-edge research in the areas of synapse development and function, sensory systems, and complex behavior, cognitive neuroscience, and behavioral neurobiology. The Dr. F. Robert Jackson lab is supported by funding from the federal government as well as university funds. The faculty within the department is also extensively involved with the Graduate School of Biomedical Science Program in Neuroscience as well as teaching within the medical school.


What You'll Do

In collaboration with the Principal Investigator the candidate in this role will work independently performing a wide range of specialized techniques and experiments. The overarching goal will be to use classical and molecular genetic approaches along with sophisticated behavioral assays to study roles for glia-neuron communication in the regulation of Drosophila circadian behavior and sleep. The role will include collection of Drosophila adults for genetic crosses, data analysis, interpretation of results, statistical analysis, and production of figures/tables for publication. The role will include supervision and training of others in the laboratory and helping to manage laboratory operations (ordering supplies and maintaining equipment). What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree 
  • 5-10 years of experience in related laboratory studies. Experience in Drosophila genetics and analysis of sleep/circadian behavior is essential.
  • Experience conducting laboratory experiments (genetics, microscopy, behavioral testing, statistical analysis).
  • Data analysis, and production of figures for scientific publications
  • Supervision, training, and laboratory management


Pay Range

Minimum $47,800.00, Midpoint $59,850.00, Maximum $71,900.00
 
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
