Position Description Summary
Northern Illinois University (NIU) invites applications for up to two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in the field of particle accelerator science and technology. Appointment at the Associate Professor level may be considered for exceptional candidates with the commensurate experience. The positions will be housed in the Department of Physics. The appointments will also be associated with the Northern Illinois Center for Accelerator & Detector Development (NICADD), a multidisciplinary center with one of its core missions being the advancement of accelerator science and education. NICADD has strong collaborations with Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.
The successful candidates will be expected to collaborate in a significant way with these or other national laboratories engaged in accelerator science and beam physics. The successful candidates are expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Prospective candidates must have a Ph.D. in physics or accelerator physics or a closely related discipline as appropriate and must have held at least one postdoctoral position in an area of accelerator science or technology. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to develop a successful externally funded research program in one or more of the following areas: beam physics, computational accelerator physics, advanced-accelerator concepts, charged-particle-beam sources, beam instrumentation, radiofrequency cavity and control, other accelerator technology development.
