The Department of Clinical Sciences consists of clinicians and researchers associated with the veterinary school and hospital. The Yang Laboratory within which the research technician will be working is part of the Department of Clinical Sciences and is housed on the Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine campus in the Biotechnology Transfer building. This building houses both academic and industry laboratories. The Yang Lab includes approximately 1300 sq. ft. lab space. The building has shared facilities including an autoclave, ice machine, and emergency generator. The major equipment in the Yang Laboratory include flow cytometer, QuantStudio 3 and QuantStudio 6 RT-qPCR, Droplet Digital PCR system, Agilent Bioanalyzer 2100, fluorescence and light microscopes, Nanosight, and Biotek plate reader. Currently, the laboratory employs one senior research assistant/lab manager and one research intern.

The position will be full time (35 hours per week), term-limited appointment for twelve months. The research technician will be reporting to the Yang Laboratory lab manager and will assist mainly in 2 active NIH funded projects. Will be responsible in isolating extracellular vesicles from patient plasma samples, performing RNA isolation, and preparing samples for RNA sequencing. Other responsibilities will include communicating with the veterinary hospital staff to procure donated cardiac tissue samples and processing the samples for cell culture. May also assist in other cell culture and laboratory activities as needed. The research technican will also participate in weekly laboratory meetings to discuss laboratory results and progress.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

Bachelors of Science in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, or biochemistry
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. with or without accommodation
Preferred Qualifications:

Basic laboratory skills including RNA isolation and PCR, cell culture, light microscopy, and basic computer skills
Special Work Schedule Requirements:

May work with and be exposed to hazardous chemicals and materials, human/animal tissue and fluids, radiation.
