Doctoral Candidate in Mathematics: Coding Theory for Distributed Computation

The Algebra and Discrete Mathematics Research Group in the Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis https://math.aalto.fi/en/ is looking for a doctoral candidate in the area of mathematical coding theory and its applications to distributed computing, including aspects of quantum information theory. The work will be carried out under the supervision of Prof. Camilla Hollanti, within her Algebra, Number Theory, and Applications (ANTA) Group. The ANTA Group believes in diversity, mutual respect, exchange of ideas and carrying out research together as a team.

Preference will be given to candidates with strong knowledge of linear algebra and coding theory, preferably holding an M.Sc. degree in Mathematics. Programming skills and experience in quantum information theory will be greatly valued, but are not necessary. An excellent command of English is required.

The approximate timescale for completing the doctoral degree is 4 years. The new doctoral student will start in January 2020 or as soon as possible after that, as agreed. The maximum funding period is 4 years. The initial salary is €2509 per month, and the contract includes occupational health care and social security benefits.
