With approximately 700 students, the School of Science offers degrees spanning the disciplines of Aquaculture, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Ecology and Biodiversity, Environmental Sciences, and Molecular and Cellular Biology.

For our Tauranga campus, the School of Science is seeking candidates who can contribute to research and some teaching in Marine Environmental Sciences that encompass coastal restoration. All research programs are deeply entrenched in Mātauranga Māori and the University is fortunate to hold long term partnerships with the Bay of Plenty Regional Council, Crown Research institutes and other agencies throughout New Zealand.

At Research Fellow level, you will have a PhD, or be close to completion in Chemical or Mechanical Marine Environmental Science, Coastal Population Genetics, or Marine Biological Sciences, with a focus on Marine and Estuarine environments. At Senior Research Fellow level, you will have a PhD in at least one of the areas stated above, with an established high-quality research record that complements, or is related to, relevant research activities and interests in the School of Science. Some of these activities currently include; marine conservation, ecosystem dynamics, environmental effects and assessments, coastal geomorphology, and marine biosecurity. For both levels, there is the potential to build and lead research programmes and gain external funding. You will be able to engage actively in a number of research groups in the University, including the Environmental Research Institute, as part of your research work

Specific to the position available, you will have broad and in-depth knowledge of Marine Science, Aquaculture, Population Genetics, Biological Sciences (with a focus on marine and estuarine environments). Prior experience with teaching and supervising students is necessary as is having working knowledge and experience in Mātauranga Māori.

Current salary range for Research Fellows is NZ$75,514 to $90,946 per year and for Senior Research Fellows is NZ$93,544 to $123,167 per year, depending on qualifications, skills and experience.
