Overview

Responsible for managing daily activities and operations of laboratory facility. Establishes and oversees policies and procedures, safety training and compliance, instrumentation maintenance and calibration, procurement and inventory management and manages access, scheduling and communications between research projects and users. May assist Principal Investigator with strategic planning and development opportunities. In addition, under general direction of the principal investigator, the Lab Manager will work independently performing a wide range of routine and specialized laboratory experiments related to the development of immunotherapeutic against bacterial infectious diseases. The Lab Manager will analyze data and assists investigator in writing/editing materials for publication and presentation.  


What You'll Do

  • Implements and/or revises policies and SOPs for laboratory systems and operations. Manages access, scheduling and communications for laboratory users and research projects.
  • Responsible for managing equipment and instrumentation, including acquisition of new equipment and negotiations with vendors to achieve optimal pricing, desired functionality and maintenance/repair contracts. Manages inventory and procurement of supplies. Investigates new technology specific to research goals and presents analysis and recommendations.
  • Manages environmental health and safety training, documentation and compliance. Serves as point person for inspections and audits. Manages record keeping and compliance with best laboratory practices and applicable regulations. Ensures compliance with proper animal husbandry.
  • Hires, trains and supervises laboratory staff. Manages workflow and provides performance feedback. Conducts or provides input for annual performance evaluations and determines training and development opportunities. Conducts regular staff meetings to ensure effective communication, workflow and operations.
  • Participates in design and execution of research studies.  Ensures progress toward project milestones.  
  • May assist with research and analysis to pursue partnerships and development opportunities with external constituencies.


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Education and experience typically obtained through a bachelor’s degree in bioscience, and three years of research laboratory experience.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and operations.
  • Previous teaching/instructional or supervisory experience.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Comfort with varied users from multiple disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in biological science.
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams.


Pay Range

Minimum $71,050.00, Midpoint $88,850.00, Maximum $106,700.00
 
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
