JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Dr. Erin Ottmar and the MAPLE Lab at WPI seeks to hire a postdoctoral fellow (full time, 12 months) in the Learning Sciences, Technology, and Psychology programs in Social Sciences and Policy Studies Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The candidate would join a collegial and strong interdisciplinary team and conduct research using several large data sets from 2 recently completed IES funded efficacy studies examining the impact of math technology on learning across a school year. There are a lot of opportunities
to examine the intersections of algebra problem solving, feedback, math cognition, student errors and strategy use by conducting log-level analyses of student interactions and problem solving strategies within the Graspable Math technology.
The postdoc will be expected to participate fully with all research activities in the lab including: analyzing quantitative and quantitative survey data, log data, and student assessment data, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and writing manuscripts for publication. The postdoc will also have opportunities to continue to develop their own independent research in related areas.
The candidate should have a PhD in psychology, education, data analytics, statistics, learning sciences, or another related area. They should have strong quantitative research and writing skills and an appreciation for applying theories, perspectives, and methodologies from several areas including education sciences, learning sciences, computer science, math education, and/or cognitive science.
This position is full time and comes with benefits. The start date is flexible but can begin as soon as June 1, 2021. Due to COVID, the position will begin remotely. Ideally, this position would begin to work on campus in the fall, but remote work is also negotiable.
