  • The University of São Paulo (USP) implements affirmative action policies to promote equal opportunities and diversity within its academic environment. These initiatives aim to address historical inequalities and ensure more equitable access to higher education.

For example, the Graduate Program in Humanities, Rights, and Other Legitimacies (PPGHDL) at USP adopts affirmative action policies for candidates who self-identify as Black, Indigenous, quilombola (residents of Afro-Brazilian communities), individuals with disabilities, transgender individuals, refugees, stateless persons, and those holding humanitarian visas. Reserved slots for these groups range from 50% to 80%, alternating annually. (ppghdl.fflch.usp.br)

Additionally, USP organizes debates and events to discuss the challenges of affirmative actions as a means to promote equality and diversity in the academic environment, involving Brazilian and international researchers. (iea.usp.br)

These initiatives reflect USP's commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment, aligned with the principles of equal opportunities and affirmative actions.
