Postdoctoral Associate positions on NIH-funded research projects are available in the laboratory of Dr. Saikat Boliar in the
Department of Microbiology and Immunology of the Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at University at Buffalo, the State University of New York.
The Boliar lab studies HIV-1 persistence in tissue-resident lung alveolar macrophages and its impacts on macrophage innate immunity. The postdoctoral associates will work in close collaboration with scientists at the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Clinical Research Program in Blantyre, Malawi to investigate viral genomic and transcriptomic profiles in infected alveolar macrophages and how the cellular distribution compares in anti-retroviral treated or untreated study participants. A second project will focus on identification of the role of novel host-dependency factors, particularly long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in HIV-1 latency/persistence and investigate how lncRNAs can be therapeutically targeted.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Work in BSL2+ lab with HIV-1 virus, molecular virology, cell culture, cloning, RNA biology, flow-cytometry/sorting.
- Glassware cleaning, media and buffer preparation
- Laboratory notebook upkeep, research data presentation/publication
The postdoctoral associates will have the opportunity to work in an internationally collaborative and supportive environment, gain expertise in molecular virology, immunology and RNA biology and receive mentoring for research and career development.
