The Department of Biology at Utah Valley University invites applications for an open rank tenure-track faculty position to begin in August 2020. We are seeking an outstanding candidate with a background in Anatomy. The successful candidate should have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and a research program utilizing undergraduate students. Candidates must have a doctorate degree or equivalent, research background in Anatomy, Physiology, or related discipline, and a strong commitment to effective teaching utilizing data-driven pedagogies in the classroom. Teaching responsibilities include: Courses in Introduction to Anatomy (ZOOL 1090), Human Anatomy (ZOOL 2320 and ZOOL 2325) and additional biology courses, including courses within your area of expertise, or as needed by the department. The successful candidate is expected to establish an active research program that includes mentoring of undergraduates leading to peer-reviewed publications. Additional responsibilities include working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to promote successful growth of the department and serving on department, college, and university committees as fitting a tenure-track position. Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctorate (e.g. Ph.D., M.D., D.O., or equivalent) in anatomy or related field required. Potential areas of candidate expertise include: developmental biology, embryology, clinical anatomy, comparative vertebrate anatomy, anatomical pathology, histology, neurobiology or other anatomically related fields at a university level. Experience in mammalian dissections. Must be willing to work non-traditional hours and at satellite locations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrates knowledge of human anatomy. Demonstrates knowledge of acceptable anatomical nomenclature. Knowledge of clinically relevant anatomy, gross and microscopic anatomy, developmental and comparative anatomy preferred.
- SKILLS: Demonstrable ability to perform prosections on human cadavers. Skill in classroom management with ability to engage and motivate students. Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
- ABILITIES: Ability to develop curriculum and teach/design courses, including class and laboratory components. Willingness to teach large classes, hybrid courses, and on-line courses. Familiar with multiple techniques for specimen preservation. A strong commitment to involve undergraduates in research projects.
Strong knowledge of active learning pedagogies and an established record of incorporation of those techniques in the classroom. One year experience teaching gross anatomy. Experience or strategies for teaching at open-enrollment institutions. Experience in and/or commitment to hybrid and online instruction. Publication record and/or work experience that indicates successful mentorship of undergraduates.
Work is normally performed in a typical classroom/office work environment.
