About the Project
A 36 month PhD position, funded by the DFG is available at the department of Physical Chemistry at RWTH Aachen University under the supervision of Prof. Walter Richtering and Dr. Carlos G. Lopez. The project involves the study of the solution properties polyelectrolytes in mixed water-alcohol media.
Applicants should hold a Master’s Degree (or comparable) in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or a related discipline. The position is open to people of any nationality, knowledge of German is not required. Candidates should have good skills in spoken and written English, and are expected to contribute towards teaching throughout their degree. Prior experience with either rheology and/or scattering methods is advantageous but not required.
Your Duties and Responsibilities
Your project will focus on studying the solution properties of polyelectrolytes in aqueous and organic media using rheological and scattering methods. Specifically, you will investigate how the solvation of polyelectrolyte counterions affects the solubility of polyelectrolytes in different aqueous and organic media, with a focus on water-alcohol mixtures. Additionally, you will study the flow behaviour of these systems using rotational rheology and microrheological techniques.
What We Offer:
The successful candidate will be employed as a regular employee for 3 years.
We aim to fill the position by 01.11.2021. The starting date is flexible.
The standard weekly hours will be 26 hrs. and 33 minutes.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary corresponds to level EG 13 TV-L.
