A 12-month post-doc fellowship is open at the Atmospheric Physics Laboratory in the University of São Paulo, Brazil. The project intends to increase the scale of representativeness of local measurements to the regional scale, as well as assessing the relative importance of different processes in the interaction forest-atmosphere-clouds. The WRF-GHG model will be used for downscale for different land use and climate scenarios in Amazonian region. Simulations of deforestation and degradation in the Amazon with global numerical models for 80-year scenarios will serve as based scenarios for downscale for periods of 10 years. The main goal of this post-doc research plan is to estimate carbon sources and sinks, and investigate the climate and land use processes that control carbon fluxes in Amazonia.

Requirements: experience with Python programming, model simulation and data analysis. Background in meteorology, geosciences or environmental physics is desirable. Candidates should have completed their PhD no more than seven years prior to application.

Applications by email (lmachado@if.usp.br), including: CV; PhD diploma; academic record of graduate courses; motivation letter describing previous experience and research interests.

  • This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality, with a fellowship granted by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 12,000.00 monthly plus a research contingency fund equivalent to 10% of the fellowship's annual value, for 12 months.
