The School of Biological Sciences (SBS), part of the College of Science, was established in 2002 with a mission to advance biological and biomedical sciences. At SBS, our research spans various areas, including infectious diseases, immunology, neurodegenerative diseases, telomere biology, and genome function. Over the years, SBS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.

Join groundbreaking research at SBS and unlock the secrets of ageing and cancer at the molecular level. We are seeking a passionate and motivated Project Officer / Research Assistant / Research Engineer I to contribute to our cutting-edge cryo-EM studies of telomeric chromatin complexes. This research, funded by the NMRC YIRG grant, focuses on the project ‘Deciphering the Structural Basis of SIRT6-Telomere Interplay in Aging and Cancer’. The aim is to unravel the structural interactions between SIRT6 and telomeres and explore the potential for establishing a cryo-EM platform for chromatin-based drug development. This position is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.

You will have the chance to learn advanced techniques in cryo-EM sample preparation and data analysis, as well as gain exposure to various characterization methods, including EMSA, chromatography (size, affinity), NMR, single-molecule studies, mass spectrometry, light scattering, and fluorescence microscopy.

Job Description

  • Express and purify proteins in E. coli.

  • Amplify and purify telomeric DNA templates using established protocols.

  • Conduct biochemical and biophysical assays, including telomeric chromatin sample preparation.

  • Assist in laboratory management and perform routine duties.

Job Requirements

  • BSc in biology, biotechnology, chemistry, or a related field.

  • Diploma holders with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience may also be considered.

  • Hands-on experience in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or structural biology.

  • Preferred experience with protein expression in E. coli.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
