The New Mexico Institute of Science and Engineering invites applications for an endowed 10-month assistant or associate professor position that will perform research, teaching, and service. Research will include a concentration in Computer Science Education. Teaching will be split between the Computer Science and Engineering Department (CSE) and the Master of Science for Teachers (MST) programs with approximately twelve credits per year spread across CSE and MST. Service will include statewide outreach to K-12 Computer Science educators and students, including summer programs for which an extra month of support is included.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in CSE and instructing masters-level courses in the MST program. Engage in independent research in the field of Computer Science including Computer Science Education. Serve as research advisor for CSE and/or MST students. Develop two coordinated summer programs: one for MST teachers and one for different student levels focused on making computer science engaging, relevant, and exciting. Recruit students and help support Computer Science, MST, and STEM Education outreach activities. Prepare various accountability and assessment reports, and support the program certification, accreditation, and other support as needed. A Ph.D. required in Computer Science or closely related discipline at time of hire. The successful candidate will start at NMT in August of 2022.
The NMT Department of Computer Science and Engineering is one of the oldest computer science programs west of the Mississippi and offers an array of bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees in computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, and management. In addition they offer many graduate degrees in cybersecurity in conjunction with cybersecurity education center. With 13 faculty and approximately 230 students, the department offers an intimate, highly focused setting for obtaining an education and conducting research.
