Research in hydrogeology is growing at the UQAT Groupe de recherche sur l’eau souterraine [Groundwater Research Group] (GRES). Professors working at the GRES are attached to the l'Institut de recherche en mines et en environnement [Research Institute on Mines and the Environment] (IRME), a multidisciplinary team of 16 professors supported by the professional and technical staff of the Unité de recherche et de service en technologie minérale [Research and Service Unit in Mineral Technology] (URSTM). GRES research topics aim to help ensure the sustainability of groundwater resources and revolve around hydrogeological mapping, northern hydrogeology and environmental hydrogeochemistry The GRES team, located on the Amos campus, has research infrastructures to support the deployment of multidisciplinary research projects in environmental hydrogeology.
The Institut de recherche en mines et en environnement [Research Institute on Mines and the Environment] (IRME) is seeking to fill the position of:
TENURE TRACK PROFESSOR

The individual selected will mainly teach individual graduate students at the graduate and postgraduate levels for the purposes of furthering their theoretical, scientific, and technological knowledge in the field of hydrogeology, environmental hydrogeochemistry and water resources in the context of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Nord-du-Québec regions. Target specializations include hydrogeological modelling, northern hydrogeology, resource assessment and hydrogeological mapping, hydrogeophysics and surface and groundwater hydrogeochemistry. This individual must carry out research and be able to secure funding for individual students under their direction at the graduate and postgraduate levels through granting agency or other funds. The individual selected will participate actively in the development and national and international outreach of IRME and UQAT by the development of an innovative research program in the above-mentioned fields. The individual will be called upon to take on certain administrative tasks at IRME and will need to integrate into GRES and the existing faculty team.
- Hold a doctorate with a specialization in one or more fields related to hydrogeology, in particular hydrogeological modelling, hydrology, environmental geochemistry or any other related field.
- Have a well-established, or promising university research profile, for the purpose of initiating or continuing an independent, innovative, and high-level research program.
- Have the teaching skills and the aptitudes for academic supervision of individual students at the graduate and postgraduate levels.
- Have the inclination and aptitude to become part of, cooperate with, discuss and work in a team, as well as the ability to get involved in the IRME and GRES's growth.
- Proficiency in spoken and written French and English; the application of a candidate who is not proficient in French may be considered, subject to specific conditions.
OTHER CRITERIA CONSIDERED AS ASSETS:
- Possess skills for carrying out field work in hydrogeology and geochemistry (e.g. geochemical sampling, acquisition of geophysical data, carrying out hydraulic tests).
- Have experience with inter- or multi-disciplinary research.
- Have experience in cooperative research together with Indigenous partners.
- Be a member of a professional order such as the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec or the Ordre des géologues du Québec.

Salary is based on the qualifications and experience of each candidate according to the current collective agreement.
