Departmental Overview

Research, education and service in Earth and Planetary Sciences is driven by a fundamental human curiosity about the past, present and future of Earth and other planets. We underpin our intellectual mission with a comprehensive dedication to equity, accessibility and inclusion for all.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare genomic DNA and RNA for sequencing by measuring concentration and quality, and ship to sequencing facility
  • Answer research questions related to microbiomes, especially in humans and soil.
  • Conduct various data handling and analysis metagenomics procedures in support of the lab.
  • Organize lab supplies and equipment, input everything into online inventory database. Specifically, maintain the chemicals inventory
  • Monitor inventory of laboratory reagents and consumables and keep track of supplies needed.
  • Order supplies and equipment, as needed.
  • Handle all issues related to biosafety documentation and inspections.
  • Assist with field work preparation and storage of field work equipment.


Required Qualifications
  • Experience with basic microbial nucleic acid handling methods, including sterile techniques.
  • Computer proficiency and some expertise in metagenomic data analysis.
  • Exceptional organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to handle, catalog and track items over extended periods.
  • Bachelor's degree in natural sciences and/or equivalent experience/training.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated skill in microbiology methods and metagenomic data analysis.


Salary & Benefits

This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
