The Department of Geosciences at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track open rank (Assistant/Associate Professor) faculty position in Economic Geography, beginning fall semester 2024. The department is particularly interested in applicants doing innovative research at the nexus of development economics, geography, and environmental studies. More specifically candidates who apply economic methods, within a quantitative or mixed methods framework, to evaluate contemporary environment and development issues within particular regional contexts. Topics include the economic dimensions of environmental issues such as climate change, urbanization, energy supply and infrastructure, water policy, environmental justice, and extractive industries. We seek a researcher involved in global international economic research with a strong quantitative background, which will enable new collaboration across campus and seek external funding. We particularly welcome applications from researchers specialized in areas such as quantitative-economic geography, spatial epistemological, econometric modeling, sociology and spatial statistics. As part of our Geology and Geography Masters programs and interdisciplinary Earth System Science PhD program, the successful candidate will teach economic geography, survey methodologies and geo-statistical courses to expand the skillsets of our students.
Appointment rank will depend on the qualifications of the selected candidate. The successful candidate is expected to develop a rigorous, externally funded research program, publish scholarly work, and advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
Applications must include: 1) the applicant’s curriculum vitae, 2) copies of transcripts, and 3) the names and contact information of three professional references, as well as up to 2 pages each for: 4) a cover letter/letter of interest, 5) a statement of research interests, and 6) a statement of teaching philosophy and interests. The addition of an inclusion statement describing how past and/or planned contributions to teaching, research, and/or service will serve to advance the mission of the College of Sciences and Mathematics in creating an inclusive environment would be highly desirable. The College of Sciences and Mathematics is committed to providing resources to enhance awareness and appreciation of cultural and individual diversity, promote community, and prepare students, faculty, and staff to have a global impact in STEM (
