The Department of Chemistry at the George Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry beginning as early as Fall 2020 in Bioorganic Chemistry. The search is open to all areas of bioorganic chemistry, including chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, and molecular probes. Applications of bioorganic chemistry to medicine and the environment that complement the existing strengths of the department are of particular interest. GW Chemistry recently moved into the newly constructed 250,000 sq. ft. Science and Engineering Hall. This unique facility houses expansive lab spaces, a state-of-the-art imaging suite, and a Class 100 nanofabrication/cleanroom facility. The imaging instrumentation includes new SEM, TEM, FIB-SEM and Confocal Microscopes. Our department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, and our dynamic faculty of 20 have collaborative programs with the George Washington University Medical Center, the Katzen Cancer Research Center, the School of Engineering and Applied Science and the GW Institute for Neuroscience.

Moreover, our strategic and central location in Washington DC facilitates many engagements with prestigious research laboratories such as the National Institutes of Health, Naval Research Laboratory, Children’s National Medical Center, National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Food and Drug Administration, the DC Center for AIDS Research and the Smithsonian Institution. And GW’s Virginia Science and Technology Campus in Northern Virginia’s Tech Corridor has extensive research facilities and is well-situated for collaboration with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Janelia Research Campus.

Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or Doctoral degree in Chemistry or a related field by the date of appointment.

Application Procedure: Please complete an online faculty application at http://www.gwu.jobs/postings/70241 and upload a cover letter, curriculum vita, publication list, and statements of research and teaching interests. Recommendations from at least three references should be sent by the references to chemsearch@gwu.edu.

Only complete applications will be considered. Review of applications will begin October 7, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled. Employment offers are contingent on the satisfactory outcome of a standard background screening.
