Job Details:

The Department of Biology at Mercer University seeks to hire a visiting Lecturer of Biology in the broad area of molecular biology with a preferred specialty in microbiology. This position is full time as a nine-month faculty position that begins August 1st, 2024 and requires teaching and some service to the department. This is a one-year visiting appointment with the possibility of renewal.

 

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include teaching seven courses (27 hours) per academic year at the undergraduate level, including the molecular-based introductory biology course, microbiology for nursing majors, and preferably microbiology for biology majors. In addition, the successful candidate will support the work of the department by attending and contributing to department meetings and by participating in faculty development.

 

Qualifications:

A master's degree (or higher) in Biological Science or related field with a strong emphasis in a field related to molecular biology from an accredited college/university is required. Coursework in microbiology is strongly preferred. A promise of excellence in teaching in the context of a liberal arts college and membership in Phi Beta Kappa are considered added advantages.

 

Selection of the final candidate is contingent on successful completion of a criminal background check.
