The Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute (FBRI), Texas Tech University (Lubbock, Texas) invites applications for available postdoctoral position in biopolymers and bioproducts. The PDRA will be responsible for participating in several concurrent research projects associated with chemical engineering and preparation of biomaterials (design, synthesis, modification, and characterization of polymers) with the aim of achieving intended product properties/performance (based on project requirements). Work will be performed under supervision of faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness. May supervise MS and PhD research assistants.
Develop original and innovative ideas and generate data (including analysis) that leads to successful peer-reviewed publications and successful grant proposals; * Maintain close awareness of scientific literature related to biopolymer processing methodologies;
Conduct research in the appropriate field on the intersection of materials science and chemistry; * Communicate research results through reports, presentations, and publications; * Apply for external funding; * Mentor MS and PhD students.
Outstanding candidates will have:
PhD in Polymer Science or Material Science; * Experience in polymer / material chemistry (can include academic/PhD research);
Extensive hands on in polymer and material characterization; * Work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research; * Strong understanding of material structure-property relationship; * Strong understanding of polymer chemistry;
Hands on experience and interpretation knowledge on analytical equipment such as DSC, TGA, FTIR, GPC, SEM, etc.; * Excellent oral and written communication skills; * Strong interpersonal skills to work in team environment.
