Utah Valley University located in Orem, UT seeks an:
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - BIOLOGY
DUTIES: Teaches courses in human anatomy and nomenclature with potential for teaching additional courses in biology department curriculum such as (but not limited to) general biology, comparative anatomy, and/or specialty courses in area of expertise. Develops and supervises a research program that promotes undergraduate student participation which should result in peer-reviewed publications. Collaboratively and professionally promotes the department, college, and collective and individual interests of the faculty, staff and students. Supports ways (through service) to fulfill the guiding concepts/mission of the university. Conducts prosections on human cadavers.
Must possess earned doctorate (Ph.D., M.D., D.O., or equivalent) in Biology or related degree from an accredited institution. Foreign equivalent degree accepted. One year university teaching experience with gross anatomy. Additionally, one year university teaching experience in one of the following areas: developmental biology, embryology, clinical anatomy, comparative vertebrate anatomy, anatomical pathology, histology, neurobiology or other anatomically related fields at a university level. One year experience must include mammalian dissections. Demonstrable ability to involve students in scientific research projects in anatomy. The required qualifications include the demonstrable knowledge, skills and abilities listed below.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrable knowledge of human anatomy. Demonstrable knowledge of proper anatomical nomenclature. Demonstrable knowledge of clinically relevant anatomy, gross and microscopic anatomy, developmental and comparative anatomy preferred.
SKILLS: Demonstrable skill to perform prosections on human cadavers. Demonstrable skill in classroom management and student motivation techniques. Demonstrable skill in effective verbal and written communication.
ABILITIES: Demonstrable ability to develop curriculum and teach/design courses, including lecture and laboratory components. Demonstrable teaching ability in lecture and laboratory settings. Demonstrable ability to teach large classes, distance education courses, or on-line courses. Demonstrable ability to utilize multiple techniques for specimen preservation.
Work is normally performed in a typical classroom/office work environment.
