Position Summary
The College of Arts and Sciences, The State University of New York at Buffalo, seeks to hire a Clinical Assistant Professor to teach courses in the broad area of Environmental Studies and advise students in the College’s Environmental Studies major. Teaching and scholarship in the areas of environmental studies, environmental sciences and sustainability are distributed across 27 academic departments in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, and the Arts within the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will play a key role in building curricular, institutional, and national presence in Environmental Studies and Environmental Geosciences and developing an innovative new undergraduate curriculum aligned with global sustainable development goals. The incumbent will work with the CAS communications team to create and implement a communications plan for the new department of Environment and Sustainability that will evolve from this curricular process. The incumbent will hold a PhD in a relevant field, be a charismatic teacher in his or her specialty, and have excellent interpersonal skills.

This is a 12-month appointment. The incumbent will have obligation during the winter and summer terms (calendar-year obligation). The normal teaching load for a Clinical Assistant Professor is four courses per semester (eight course across the fall and spring semesters). Teaching load may be adjusted depending on service and administrative assignments. The initial appointment will be for a three-year term with possible reappointment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant area of study in hand by time of appointment.
  • Ability to work with faculty in the sciences, humanities, arts, and social sciences to build a coherent, innovative undergraduate curriculum in environment and sustainability that leverages existing resources.
  • Ability to advise and recruit students.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills including ability to work with CAS communications team to develop and implement a marketing plan for the new program.
