The Department of Space, Earth and Environment contains five divisions, with research and education spanning from global challenges related to sustainability and energy supply to astronomy and space sciences. The department is host to two major infrastructures, Onsala Space Observatory and Chalmers Power Central, and consist of about 250 employees.

Information about the project
The division of Energy technology offers a Post-doc position focused on investigating the interaction of electric road systems (ERS) and the electritity generation system.

The position on offer will join a team of senior researchers, postdocs and PhD students dedicated to research aimed at identifying and evaluating pathways towards a sustainable European energy systems. This position is directed towards performing research with the aim to investigate how electricity use the road transportation system can be shifted in time to increase the value of non-dispathable electricty generation such as wind and solar power and, in particular, to analyse challenges and opportunities of integration of ERS along hihg traffic-density roads such as used for heavy road vehicles.

The topic is of high relevance since the road transportation sector needs to be decarbonized and electrification offers a possible energy carrier to power the vehicles. At the same time the electricity generation system throughout Europe is characterized by increasing amounts of variable (non-dispatchable) electricity generation and there is a need to develop new knowledge to understand to what extent an electrified transportation can provide system benefits in the form of adjusting the transportation work to the electricity production, i.e. to investigate to what extent electrified road transportation can offer Demand Response (DSM).

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities in a post doctoral position to take responsibility of the described project and merit yourself by producing good quality research reported in scientific journals. In addition, you are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing in English. You are also expected to take active part and in building and maintaining collaborative links with relevant members of the research team, as well as with our research partnerts in a so called Research and Innovation platform on electric road systems (ERS).

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to two years with a possible extension of two years, based on the result from the first period and proided there is funding.

Qualifications
To qualify for this post doctoral position, you must have a PhD level degree in a relevant field, e.g. Energy Systems, Environmental science, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Engineering Physics or equivalent. Excellent writing and communication skills in English is required. Similarly, excellent writing and communication skills in Swedish is meritororius. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
