Postdoctoral Research Associate - Genetic engineering of bacteriophages for rapid diagnostics

The Nugen Research Group is looking to add a highly motivated Postdoctoral researcher to the lab. Details on the lab can be found at:

The postdoc will utilize techniques in molecular and synthetic biology in order to design a new generation of bacteriophage-based detection kits to evaluate water quality. The sensors are being designed for use in resource-limited-areas such as Sub-Saharan Africa and remote parts of Southeast Asia.

The postdoc will be expected to perform in a high-paced, creative, team-oriented research environment.

The position is available immediately with a 1-year commitment. We will review applications as they arrive and will close the search when the position is filled. The ideal start date is in April but is negotiable.

Essential skills for the successful candidate include demonstrated proficiency designing and using yeast and bacterial cloning systems and genetic engineering of microorganisms.

Candidates with a Ph.D. in microbiology, food safety, molecular genetics, or similar fields are strongly encouraged to apply. The postdoc will be working on the development of portable, low-cost E. coli detection assays for drinking water in low-resource settings.

Requirements for the position are listed below:

Excellent written and communication skills;
Molecular biology proficiency;
Virology experience preferred;
Experience in conducting independent research;
Genetic engineering and cloning proficiency;
Ability to lead a team consisting of graduate and undergraduate students.
